PM Inaugurates DigiSkills Program to Prepare One Million Freelancers in Pakistan

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated the Digi Skills program aimed at training one million of the youth through online modules in Islamabad today.

Ignite — previously the ICT R&D Fund — will be overseeing the program that has already floated the RFP for the private partners for the execution of this project.

DigiSkills program is said to be the brain-child of Anusha Rehman, who has tasked Yousaf Hussain, CEO of Ignite, to execute the program in best possible manner.

While addressing the official launch ceremony of the DigiSkills, the Prime Minister said that his government has built motorways, ports, airports and established power plants but the advancement in the information technology sector is the most important contribution in the last five years.

The Prime Minister said that DigiSkills program will equip the youth to get online jobs and earn money through non- traditional ways.

He said the government’s responsibility is to fully facilitate the private sector to take forward the initiative and lead the way. He said the government is committed to ensure availability of broadband in the country and facilitate e-commerce.

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Anusha Rehman, while addressing the launch ceremony, said that the DigiSkills is an important program that will create online employment opportunities to enable youth to earn 200 to 300 dollars per month.

She said that with the help of this program, youth from across the country will be providing their services to the entire world.

The minister revealed that other countries have also started to replicate this program.

She emphasized that the government is committed to enlighten the future of our young generation with the use of latest technologies.
